Ian Mathews defended his Ph.D. thesis titled “Metabolite Mediators of Inflammation and Immunity” on July 31, 2020. Ian was co-advised by Professor Sonia Sharma from the La Jolla Institute of Immunology.  Admired for his attentive listening and insightful scientific discussions, Ian will surely be missed in the lab.

Valerie Sapp defended her Ph.D. thesis titled “Genome-wide Approaches for Understanding Disease Mechanisms in Human iPS Derived Cells” on July 24, 2020.  Over 80 faculty members, colleagues, friends and family members joined in to attend her talk, which really speaks for the tremendous impact Val and her work has had in the community.  Very well done and congratulations Dr. Sapp!

Dr. Mohit Jain was awarded the competitive NIEHS Outstanding New Environmental Health Sciences (ONES) awards.  The Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award is intended to identify the most talented ESIs who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in the Environmental Health Sciences and assist them in launching an innovative research program focused on the understanding of environmental exposure effects on people’s health.   Congratulations!
